PLAN YOUR OREGON COAST WINTER GETAWAY

November 2021

Here on the North Coast of Oregon we are looking forward to winters fog-layered mornings, dramatic afternoon storms interspersed with breaks of sunshine, monthly king tides, and magnificent displays of colors at sunset. Winter at our special spot provides countless opportunities to head out and explore our unique and inspiring coastal surroundings or stay in and bask in the blissful solitude of the season.

HEAD OUT

Borrow binoculars and trekking poles and head to nearby trails and hidden pathways that wander through wetlands and majestic old-growth forests. At Clay Myers State Natural Area at Whalen Island keep an eye out for Bald Eagles nesting along the tidal estuaries. Winter is an ideal time to explore the beautiful Cape Lookout Trail. The trail extends 1.5-miles from the coastline and while seasonal muddy pathways may deter some hikers from reaching the tip of the cape, there are plenty of picturesque views and dramatic landscapes within a 10-minute walk of the trailhead. Keep an eye out for an unforgettable North Coast experience—the chance to view migrating gray whales heading towards their winter home in Baja!

Plan your Oregon coast getaway to coincide with the yearly king tides. Occurring several times each winter in conjunction with a new or full moon, king tides offer an amazing show of the Pacific’s power and strength. For a memorable experience climb to the top of the Great Dune at Cape Kiwanda with our Adventure Coaches to view the show from a perfect (and safe) vantage point. Each winter, storms along the North Coast create ideal conditions for agate hunting by uncovering gemstones hidden under the sand during winter months. Join Marcy, our Adventure Coach and local rock-hounding expert, on a private guided agate expedition. Or head out on your own for quiet and meditative agate hunt at a secluded nearby beach.

Defy winter’s chill while you take in the magnificent views of the coastline—we can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon than enjoying an extended soak in our outdoor hot tub.

STAY IN

Nothing complements winter adventure more than a restorative spa treatment. Reserve a warming Ginger Stone Massage or nourishing Tidepools Glow Facial at Tidepools Spa & Wellness. Or experience a luxurious and therapeutic extended treatment, perhaps our favorite combination—a 90-minute Tidepools Muscle Recovery followed by a Wild Lime Scalp Treatment.

Spend an afternoon watching our famous winter storms from the privacy of your oceanfront balcony. Borrow an Oregon Coast guidebook from the Adventure Center and plan your next day’s adventure or curl up in your luxuriously comfortable Frette robe with a warming cup of tea.

Acquire new skills or add tips and tricks to your at-home mixology practice. Join our resident mixologists at Meridian for a Mixology 101 or Behind the Bar seasonal class.  During the month of December our team will feature holiday specialties, including a classic Hot Toddy. Reserve an Old-Fashioned Mixology session in January, and in February join the team to learn all about sparking cocktails and bubbles.

Cozy up by your private fireplace with a nightcap perfectly suited for a stormy winter’s-eve. We’ve collaborated with our friends at A Yen for Chocolate and Bull Run Distillery to create a unique chocolate flight, paired with an easy-to-sip whiskey. We think this winter nightcap provides the ideal finale to a day of adventure on the North Coast.
